Creating jewellery from Silver Clay
Service Description
Silver clay is the material that first got me hooked on making jewellery. It is a fascinating, interesting and fun thing to work with and the creative possibilities are endless! THIS IS A TWO PART COURSE! On the first day you will be handed a 7g pack of clay. Do not be deceived, this tiny piece of clay goes a very long way! Learn how to handle the clay, model it, texture it and form it into the shape you have designed. Your clay creation will then need time to dry thoroughly before it can be fired. So this is a TWO PART course where the first part you will create your piece of jewellery and then set it aside to dry. Ideally the course will run over TWO consecutive days. However if this does not work for you, please let me know. We can also do the first part in the morning, and then have you back in the workshop that same afternoon. When you return to the studio and you will learn how to handle the dried piece, sanding the raw edges and preparing it for firing. Depending on the size of the piece, we may use the kiln or an open gas flame to burn off the aggregate, and you will have a solid piece of 999 fine silver. You may need to solder your jewellery or drill a hole in it and finally you will learn about the polishing and finishing of this piece. All participants will be given a small ball of fine silver clay to work with. You will need to think carefully what you want to make as you’ll need to work quickly before the clay dries. There will of course be plenty of tea and coffee on offer and if you require almond or oat milk please let me know as these can also be made available, along with a cheeky slice of cake. Silver necklaces are available from Savannah Silver. Please ask about a necklace when you book as I will need to buy this ahead of your course. The cost of the necklace will be passed to you on the day. These may be paid for on the day. Course duration: 4 hours, over two days. (two hours per day) Course Availability: Only available on Saturdays or Sundays on certain weekends, not available during the working week. PLEASE READ the course instructions before booking!!
Course policy
All participants MUST be over 18 years old. Please wear sensible clothing for this course. You will be provided with an apron, but clothing may be damaged during the process of making your jewellery. Please bring glasses if you need them for close work. All participants must ensure they wear closed shoes for the course. Anyone wearing flip flops of similar open shoes will not be able to participate in the course. If you have any dietary requirements (oat milk etc) please let us know so we can make sure you have a warm beverage that you are able to enjoy. We have dogs at the studio. And the studio is in our home. Although the dogs are kept out of the studio area while we are making the jewellery, it is highly likely you will meet our furry children. If this idea horrifies you, please let us know and we will do our best to allay any fears or worries you may have. However if you are allergic to dogs, then we will need to have a discussion before you book onto a course. Courses are ONLY available some weekends and in the evenings. Please do not book a course unless we have had a discussion about availability. NO more than TWO (2) participants per course, with an additional observer. Our studio area is quite small and we want you to get the most of your time on this course, so we simply cannot accommodate more participants. Cancellations may be made up to 48hours before the start of a course and a full refund will be made to you. Any cancellations made after this time will not be refunded and 100% of the course fee will be retained by Savannah Silver Jewellery.
